I'm Lazy = Craft Meme

I was going to write about Precious but I'm just not up to it right now. I googled "craft meme" instead and found this. So here goes.

Do you knit?
Yes.

Do you sew?
Even in my sleep.

Don't look it up. Don't. Look. It. Up. If you're reading this on someone else's blog, do this part mentally before continuing on. Define the following terms, and when you're done, put the answers at the very bottom of this meme: tatting, flocking, kerf and selvedge - make up a definition if you don't know. At this location (with a link) add a crafting term you think is uncommon, but which you know, to the list for others to define.

What's your favorite craft store?
I usually hit the chain stores, as lame as they are. I really like Material Matters in Cedarburg (quilt shop), Ben Franklin in Oconomowoc, and Eclectica beads in Brookfield.

Do you have a crafting hobby that is not knitting or sewing (what)?
I crochet, bead, and do needlepoint/petit point on a regular basis.

Have you ever latch hooked anything? Is it still on display somewhere?
I latch hooked a little pillow once. It was a picture of a lion and I have no idea where it is now.

Doll crafting. Why do they do it?
Because it's fun and you get to make a doll for you child that doesn't look like a skank.

What was your favorite craft hobby as a child?
I was obsessed with Fimo and made a ton of things with it.

Do you admit to crafting, or do you call it something else (like DIY)?
I'll proudly admit that I'm a crafter. Where's the shame in that?

List everything you've tried from a crafting perspective:
Knitting, crocheting, sewing, beading, embroidery, needlepoint/petit point, tatting, quilting, scrapbooking, stamping, decoupage, latch hook, polymer clay, felting, floral design, calligraphy, stenciling, painting, pastels, metalsmithing, jewelry making, pottery, drawing, dollmaking, and interior design.

Ever been injured while crafting?
I was carving a wax block into a ring (wax casting) and sliced the top of my thumb open. It was seriously gross but I refused to go to the hospital and get stitched because I'm a big chicken.

Has anything you've crafted been displayed at a state fair, regional fair, county fair, 4-H meeting, or similar event?
I had 2 pieces, a necklace and a mixed media piece, displayed as part of the Scholastic Art Awards. They won a silver and gold key and went on to be displayed at the national show in New York city. I was also invited to display/sell several pieces in a local art show that featured some well known local artists in MI.

Have you ever worn anything you bought at a crafting fair? (or anything someone bought you at a crafting fair)?
Yes. I have a silver pod pendant that has a little pear inside it. I bought it at the Ann Arbor art fair when I was in college. It just recently dawned on my that it looks like labia. I'll have to post a picture of it.

What's the most interesting thing you've ever crafted?
Probably the mixed media piece that was on display at the Scholastic show. It incorporated some really cool metalsmithing techniques, lucite, Formica, beads, and a photograph.

Have you ever sold your crafts?
Right here.

Have you given your crafts to others?
I love giving my craft creations to other people. I've given away blankets (sewn and knitted) loads of hats and mittens, jewelry, clothes, etc.

If you could instantly gain a crafting ability what would it be?
I guess I would either want to become a super amazing seamstress or know how to make lampwork beads.

And what would you make?
I would make the perfect pair of jeans or some goddess beads like these.

For whom?
For me of course.

Do you have a relative who has crafted something that's considered a family (or personal) treasure?
My grandfather has made some really beautiful wooden carvings.

Before you look, how many pictures do you suspect are listed by Google related to the craft of sock monkeys?
17,854

Explain your personal, presumably ad hoc, opinion about people who virtually craft in virtual worlds (like World of Warcraft)? Is it crafting?
It's not crafting, but I can't rag on people who like RPGs. I'll readily admit that I'm an RPG dork.

You're trapped in Bill Murray's Groundhog Day. What crafting skill would you refuse to learn despite having infinite time to learn it?
That's hard to say since my crafting skills are so varied. I guess I'm going to have to piss Rick off and say model building.

Definitions:
  1. tatting - Making lace using a shuttle and various types of knots and knot combinations.
  2. flocking - Covering something with that velvety powdered stuff that looks like the velvet on antlers.
  3. kerf - An Engrish version of Nerf?
  4. selvedge - The edges of the fabric that don't fray.
Don't forget that Rick is growing a mustache to raise funds for men's health issues. You can donate money in Rick's mustache's name here, and don't forget that you can get an additional 20% off of shop purchases. Details here.

Thank you SO MUCH for mentioning latch hooking! It's all the rage among my fifth-graders in Korea, but I didn't know the English name for it. Now I can tell them! Hooray!
